Level 7
Description
A pipe in this level, narrow, dark, and miserable
An adult can barely fit through the intricate network of dark pipes on this level. They extend for miles in all directions, usually coming to an end at junctions where they meet other pipes.
Nobody ought to come here, in my opinion. Like most levels, this one is a maze, but there is no way to turn around. The pipe in front of you is only wide enough for you to crawl, squeeze, and slide through. It takes far too long to backtrack. If you're too big, don't even consider coming here. Simply put, you'll get stuck and slowly die. Worse yet, your corpse will obstruct the path of the next idiot who follows after you. I'm not sure how many people have found themselves in that situation—between an impassable dead moron and an impossible retreat—but I can only imagine. I believe that issue will only worsen as more people attempt that route, creating a human 'plug' that no one could ever hope to pass.
These narrow pipes eventually connect to bigger ones, where you're able to crawl or walk sometimes rather than barely squeeze through. You wouldn't believe how good it feels when you finally step out into it. Although it's still confined, the smaller pipes are far worse. You are unlikely to become stuck here, at least.
The bigger pipes, however, come with a bigger problem: entities. There are other things besides you that can fit inside the pipes. There are a lot of creatures on this level. The level in this cluster with the greatest density and variety of nightmares is most likely this one. Giant canine-sized spiders, writhing serpentine worms that are capable of opening their mouths wide enough to swallow a man whole, and crawling men (?) that prey on whatever or whoever they come across. These are all common. These are only the ones I have personally witnessed and had to run from. Trust me when I say no one should come to this level. There are safer ways to get to deeper levels. I must emphasise that if there are other, preferable options, you should not come.
But if you've come here for some unfortunate or foolish reason, I'll give you what little advice I can. Food cannot be reliably secured. To survive, you'll need to hunt down and kill smaller, weaker creatures, or even eat insects. Water is even more scarce, and the majority of the sources of it are poisonous and stagnant. You'll need to look for pipes that carry running water; if you can locate one and crack it open, you'll have access to a source of water that is safe enough to drink. Even if you don't scald yourself trying to determine whether a pipe is hot or cold, it is still not a wise thing to do.
As far as I can tell, no one lives here. Nobody truly sane. Somewhere out there, you'll probably find a few mad wandering hermits who have perfected the art of eking out an existence in the most miserable circumstances. The rest of us will be eager to leave as soon as possible. Finding pipes that connect to other levels is necessary for doing that, but the good news is that there are many of them. The bad news is that it's impossible to distinguish them from other pipes that don't go anywhere in particular. If it leads anywhere, you'll be able to tell after about 20 feet of squeezing through the pipe; however, 20 feet can take 2 minutes going forward and 2 hours going backward.
